Wilderness First Aid 2015 Interest
We have begun our planning for the 2015 Wilderness First Aid Course. This class teaches important first aid techniques for first aid in the wilderness where definitive medical care could be 2 or more hours away. This course will teach you how to improvise medical equipment with objects and devices you may have with you of find while out in nature either hiking, camping, or on the water. You will learn about recognizing traumatic and medical conditions and how to properly approach each situation.
The class will most likely be two weekday evenings from 6-10 PM and one full weekend day. The weekday evenings will cover lecture and demonstration where you can practice skills. The weekend day will be held outdoors with a morning session on a nature walk and an afternoon session being held on the beach to cover water related emergencies. Anyone who successfully completes the lecture based course will receive a basic wilderness first aid certification valid for years. Whoever completes both the lecture and outdoor session will receive an advanced wilderness first aid certification valid for two years.
The class will be taught by highly trained EMS personnel. Several instructors have highly specialized training as Wilderness EMTs and Swift Water Rescue Technicians.
